Preventive Dentistry

Preventive dentistry doesn’t start here in our office, it starts with you at home  daily. Practicing good oral hygiene and eating a balanced diet goes a long way to promote dental health. The process of preventive dentistry is continued in our dental office as we monitor, maintain, and restore your oral health through regular dental exams, cleanings and x-rays. Sealants and fluoride are also great preventive treatments that help protect the teeth. We promote preventive dentistry because it is the key to having a healthy, confident and beautiful smile.  Dr. Gonzalez and Dr. Abrahao want you to avoid serious, painful, and costly dental problems. Your healthy, beautiful smile is what makes us smile! Taking care of your oral health regularly can also save you money in the long run with costs associated with more serious dental issues. We’d love to discuss with you and your children how you can best apply preventive dentistry in your daily lives. Please feel free to call us or set up an appointment to schedule a visit. We look forward to helping you maintain and improve your oral health!

Dental Check-ups & Cleanings

A comprehensive dental exam will be performed at your initial dental visit.  At regular check-up exams, Dr. Gonzalez, Dr. Abrahao and the hygienist will perform the following:

– Examination of diagnostic X-rays (radiographs)
– Oral cancer screening
– Gum disease evaluation
– Examination of tooth decay
– Examination of existing restorations

Sports Mouth Guards

Are you or your child an athlete? Proper protection is an important part of playing sports with or without physical contact, but many people forget their smile amidst all the helmets and kneepads. Our team will be happy to design a custom-made mouth guard that can keep teeth safe from blows while feeling comfortable and secure. Unlike store bought appliances, our mouth guards are also flexible enough to allow easy breathing and speaking.

Nightguards for Bruxism

Bruxism (more commonly referred to as teeth grinding) affects patients at every stage of life, and far too many cases go unnoticed because they occur during sleep. To combat bruxism, we provide a nightguard that’s customized for the patient’s unique mouth and will help prevent dangerous contact between the rows of teeth while they sleep.

If you’re experiencing chronic jaw pain and worn-down teeth, don’t hesitate to schedule a consultation with Dr. Gonzalez and Dr. Abrahao so they can take a closer look.

Dental Sealants

A sealant is a thin, plastic coating applied to the chewing surface of molars, premolars and any deep grooves (called pits and fissures) of teeth.  A high percentage of dental decay begins in these deep grooves.  Teeth with these conditions are hard to clean and are very susceptible to decay.  A sealant protects the tooth by sealing deep grooves, creating a smooth, easy to clean surface.

Sealants can protect teeth from decay for many years, but need to be checked for wear and chipping at regular dental visits.

Fluoride Treatments

You may have noticed that many toothpaste products have the word ‘fluoridated’ on them – but what does that mean? Fluoride is a natural mineral that’s added to these oral health products and most municipal water supplies here in the United States because of its proven positive effects regarding oral health. People who receive regular exposure to fluoride tend to have stronger tooth enamel that’s more resistant against cavities than their counterparts! Our practice also offers professional fluoride treatments for children and adults who could benefit from some added protection.
